Editorial policyHow we check facts

To book the PTE exam in India, create one myPTE account on Pearson's booking pages, choose your test, centre and date, and pay online. Bring your original passport on test day, because it must match your booking exactly. You can reschedule for free only while more than 14 full calendar days remain. Checked 10 Oct 2026.

Step-by-step booking

  1. Decide your test type first. PTE Academic, PTE Academic UKVI and PTE Core are different tests. Your university or visa office decides which one you need. Our guide to the three tests explains the difference.
  2. Start from Pearson's Book a test link and create your myPTE account during booking. You can have only one account. If you create two, you must merge them before booking, which can delay you.
  3. Choose centre and date. Pearson's test centres and fees page links to the myPTE test search, where you check availability. See our PTE exam centres in India page for the list and what to expect.
  4. Pay when you book. Pearson lists Visa and MasterCard cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and PayU in India. PayPal is not accepted. A valid voucher can pay the test fee.
  5. Wait for the confirmation email. If it has not come in two working days, check spam and your myPTE dashboard.

If you are under 18, you need parent or guardian consent. If you need test accommodations, tell Pearson when you create your account, because it will ask for a form and medical evidence.

Seven-step timeline from booking a PTE test to sharing your score: book, confirm, reschedule early, test day, take the test, get your score, share it.

Fee in India

The India price we last read on Pearson's India page was INR 18,000 including 18% GST (source: Pearson India, checked 10 Oct 2026). Pearson's own test-centres page shows no price, so confirm the figure in the booking flow. Refunds, rescore fees and vouchers are covered in PTE exam fee in India.

How far ahead are exam dates?

Pearson's retake policy says tests can be booked up to 6 months in advance (checked 10 Oct 2026). Dates vary by city and centre, so the reliable way to see what is open is the myPTE test search for your centre. For a retake, Pearson says you can book only after you receive the scores from your last test, and you can hold only one booking at a time.

Practical advice: if you have an application deadline, check dates in your own city before you start preparing, and book a date with room for a retake. Scores are usually needed before your application closes, so work backwards from that. Our PTE exam duration and flow page tells you what test day looks like.

ID requirements

Source: Pearson's identification policy, checked 10 Oct 2026. The policy page does not mention India separately.

  • Bring a physical, valid passport. Pearson's policy says a passport is the expected ID. For PTE Academic taken inside your country of citizenship, Pearson may allow an alternative ID only if it is on its exceptions list, so confirm with Pearson customer support before relying on anything else. Copies, photos of the passport, and digital IDs are not accepted.
  • The ID must be unexpired, issued no more than 10 years ago, and the same one you selected when booking.
  • Name, date of birth, citizenship and gender in your booking must exactly match the ID, in Roman characters.
  • If your passport is with a visa office, get it back before test day. If you are renewing it, wait until it arrives before you book.
  • If the ID is rejected, you will not be allowed into the test room and you lose your test fee.
  • If your name does not fit the registration form, Pearson asks you to enter what you can and send a customer support form at least three working days before the test.

Rescheduling and cancelling

Days left before the testRescheduleCancel
More than 14 full calendar daysFree, up to 6 timesFull refund
14 to 7 full calendar daysNot available; cancel and rebook50% refund
7 calendar days or fewerNot available; cancel and rebookNo refund

Pearson uses "at least 14" in one place and "more than 14" in another, so the exact boundary is unclear. Treat 15 days as your real deadline. Sign in to myPTE, open your dashboard, and choose reschedule or cancel. Pearson says a rescheduling fee can apply but does not state the amount publicly.

Original tool: working back from your deadline

Use this to place your booking. Example: your university needs a score report by 15 December, and your target test date is 30 November.

StepExample dateWhy
Target test date30 NovYour first attempt
Last safe day to reschedule free (aim for 14+ days of margin)14 NovTreat 15 days as the real limit
50% refund zoneRoughly 16 Nov to 23 NovCancelling here costs half your fee; confirm exact days in myPTE
Retake slot needed before deadlineCheck myPTE for dates between 1 Dec and 8 DecA retake needs your first scores, so leave time

Replace the example dates with yours. If no second date fits before your deadline, move your first test earlier rather than relying on one attempt. Not sure about your target score? Use our PTE to IELTS converter and score chart, and plan your practice with the speaking practice tasks.
