Editorial policyHow we check facts

There is no single PTE score for every country. The number you need depends on the destination, the visa route and, for study, the course. This page is the map: find your destination and route in the table, then open the guide that answers it. Figures here are copied from those guides, which link to the official government, Pearson or university pages they use. Hub updated 10 Oct 2026; the guides were checked on 9 and 10 Oct 2026, and each shows its own date.

If you only want to know which countries accept PTE at all, read PTE accepted countries. This page is for the next step: which guide gives the minimum for your visa or study level.

How to use a guide without getting caught out

  1. Check the test version. The same 10 to 90 scale is used by PTE Academic, PTE Academic UKVI and PTE Core, but a visa names one of them.
  2. Check whether the rule is overall or per section. UK minimums are per section, so a high overall score with one weak section can still fail. New Zealand visas on our guides use overall scores.
  3. Separate the visa floor from the university score. The visa figure is the least you need to prove English for the visa. The university sets its own entry score, and you need both.
  4. Check the test date. Australia changed its PTE figures for tests from 7 Aug 2025, so the version of the rule depends on when you sat the test.
  5. Check the age of the result. See PTE score validity.
Decision tree: UK visa needing a SELT leads to PTE Academic UKVI; Canada Express Entry leads to PTE Core; an Australian visa leads to PTE Academic; anything else means use the exact test your visa or university page names.

Text version of this diagram
  • Is it a UK visa route that requires a Secure English Language Test (SELT)? Yes: take PTE Academic UKVI (GOV.UK lists it as an approved SELT; its report carries a SELT URN). No: next question.
  • Is it Canada Express Entry? Yes: take PTE Core (IRCC says you must take the PTE Core option). No: next question.
  • Is it an Australian visa application? Yes: take PTE Academic (listed by Australia's Department of Home Affairs). No: next step.
  • Anything else: take the exact test your university or visa page names; Academic, UKVI and Core are different tests.

Practice scores on this site are estimates for your own planning, not Pearson scores. To see where you stand, try the PTE score calculator or the free mock test.

What this page does not do

It does not introduce any figure that is not already on a linked guide. A destination with no row in the tables above has no dedicated score guide on this site yet. Visa rules change, so open the official page named on the guide before you apply.

Frequently asked questions

Is there one PTE score that works for every country?

No. Governments and institutions set their own minimums. Australia, New Zealand and the UK publish PTE figures for visas, Canada sets Canadian Language Benchmark levels for PTE Core, and universities in every country set their own entry scores. Open the guide for your exact route in the table on this page.

Which PTE test do I book for each destination?

As recorded on our guides: PTE Academic for Australian visas and for university admission in most countries, PTE Academic taken in person for New Zealand visas, PTE Academic UKVI for most UK visa routes, and PTE Core for Canadian permanent residence. Always confirm the version on your visa or university page before booking.

Where can I download the visa score figures in one file?

Our PTE score thresholds by destination page lists every visa and university figure we have verified, with a source link and checked date per row, and a CSV you can download.

Do these guides replace the official page?

No. Each guide links to the official government, Pearson or university page it was built from and shows when it was checked. Visa rules change, so read the official page again before you apply.
