How the conversion works
Pearson's July 2025 study tested 1,522 people who sat both PTE Academic and IELTS Academic within 90 days. The study gives an overall table and a separate table for each skill. The overall ranges are close to Pearson's earlier studies, and the skill tables are new in 2025.
Two rules matter when you convert. First, the overall IELTS band is the average of your four sections, rounded to the nearest half band, as IELTS describes in its official scoring guide. Second, the skill ranges do not add up to the overall range. Use the row for each skill, and use the overall row only for an overall requirement.
Which score do you need?
Universities, visa authorities and employers set their own PTE minimums. A converted score tells you where you stand on Pearson's table, but it does not tell you whether a given institution will accept it. Start with the country pages: countries that accept PTE, PTE score for Australia, PTE score for Canada, PTE score for the UK and PTE score for the USA.

What PTE score is IELTS 7.0?
IELTS Academic 7.0 overall corresponds to a PTE Academic overall score of 63–70 in Pearson's July 2025 concordance. By skill it is Listening 58–63, Reading 59–64, Speaking 76–82 and Writing 69–76.
What PTE score equals IELTS 6.5?
IELTS 6.5 overall equals PTE Academic 55–62 overall. Per skill it is Listening 53–57, Reading 54–58, Speaking 66–75 and Writing 60–68.
How do I convert IELTS 8777 to PTE?
Take the average of the four section bands (8, 7, 7, 7 gives 7.25) and round it to the nearest half band, as IELTS does. That gives an overall IELTS band of 7.5, which Pearson's table maps to PTE Academic 71–78 overall. Each skill has its own PTE range: Listening 69–74, Reading 59–64, Writing 69–76, Speaking 76–82.
IELTS 6 ka PTE score kitna hai?
IELTS 6.0 overall equals PTE Academic 47–54 overall. Each skill has a different PTE range, so check the per-skill row for the skill that matters for your course or visa. Pearson's table is an estimate and institutions set their own minimums.
How is the overall IELTS band worked out from four section scores?
IELTS averages the four section bands and rounds to the nearest half band. An average ending in .25 rounds up to the next half band, and one ending in .75 rounds up to the next whole band. So 8, 7, 7, 7 averages 7.25 and becomes 7.5, and 6, 6, 7, 7 averages 6.5 and stays 6.5.
Why are the Speaking and Writing ranges higher than Listening and Reading?
Pearson uses equipercentile equating, which matches scores that a similar share of test takers reached on each test. Very few IELTS test takers score 9 in Speaking or Writing, and the distributions differ by skill, so the PTE Speaking range for IELTS 8.0 (88–89) sits higher than the overall PTE range for the same band.
Can I use this converter for an Australian visa or a university?
Use it as a rough guide only. Australia sets PTE minimums for each skill, based on the PTE test itself, and universities set their own requirements. Check the official page for your visa or course before you plan around a converted score.
