IELTS averages four section bands and rounds to the nearest half band. Here is that arithmetic for two profiles built around 63. The second makes Writing strong (71) and Reading weak (55), each 8 points from 63.

• Even profile (L 63, R 63, S 63, W 63): 7.0 + 7.0 + 6.0 + 6.5 = 26.5, divided by four is 6.625, which IELTS rounds to 6.5. The direct overall conversion of PTE 63 gives 7.0, so the two routes differ by 0.5: Pearson converts the overall and each skill with separate tables.
• Uneven profile (L 63, R 55, S 63, W 71): 7.0 + 6.5 + 6.0 + 7.0 = 26.5, divided by four is 6.625, which IELTS rounds to 6.5. Same overall as the even profile: the strong and weak skills offset.
