Waivers and English pathways

Ways ANU says you may not need to submit a PTE score, or may reach the requirement another way.

  • The policy states there are no waivers; English can instead be shown by a test, prior senior secondary education, prior tertiary education, or university preparation studies.

    Official wording
“There are no waivers in relation to the application of this policy.”

    From policies.anu.edu.au, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • Undergraduate: Indian school qualifications accepted as English evidence are AISSCE (grade C2 in English Core), ISC Year 12 (grade 1-7 in English) and Tamil Nadu Higher School Certificate (120 out of 200 in English).

    Official wording
“All India Senior School Certificate (AISSCE) A grade of C2 in English Core.”

    From policies.anu.edu.au, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • Postgraduate coursework: a bachelor degree of at least 3 years, or master of 2 years, taught and assessed entirely in English can satisfy the requirement; outside Group A countries a registrar-issued confirmation letter is needed.

    Official wording
“Completion of a minimum 3 year Bachelor degree or a minimum 2 year Master degree”

    From policies.anu.edu.au, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • Pathway programs including English programs are not available for the MChD, Master of Clinical Psychology or Master of Professional Psychology. University of Canberra College Academic English 4 is a recognised pathway for other postgraduate coursework.

    Official wording
“Pathway progams including English programs are not available for admission into the following programs:”

    From policies.anu.edu.au, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • ANU may change an unconditional offer to conditional if later evidence shows English proficiency is insufficient, and may request an additional English test.

    Official wording
“The University reserves the right to change an unconditional offer of admission to conditional on meeting English language requirements”

    From policies.anu.edu.au, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • Results from at-home or remote versions of tests are not accepted; tests must be taken in person at an official test centre.

“two years from the date of application; or”

    From policies.anu.edu.au, read on 13 Oct 2026.
