Waivers and English pathways

Ways UTS says you may not need to submit a PTE score, or may reach the requirement another way.

  • Study of a full year of secondary or post-secondary study taught in English, at an accredited institution recognised by UTS, with an official letter certifying English as the medium of instruction, can satisfy the requirement (not applicable to the teaching courses and Animation and Visualisation exceptions listed on the page).

    Official wording
“If you have successfully completed no less than the equivalent of one year full-time study of a secondary/post-secondary course that is taught in English”

    From uts.edu.au, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • The page lists countries whose qualifications are directly assessable; India is not in that list, so Indian applicants rely on the medium-of-instruction route or a test.

    Official wording
“Your qualification must have been undertaken in one of the following countries:”

    From uts.edu.au, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • A Pass in UTS College Academic English Level 5 (AE5) is accepted for the general undergraduate and postgraduate coursework requirement (not for Animation and Visualisation).

    Official wording
“A Pass result in UTS College Academic English Level 5 (AE5).”

    From uts.edu.au, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • Teaching courses (C04255, C04326) need an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification taught and assessed in English, completed within 5 years, in Australia, NZ, UK, USA, Canada or Ireland, if not using a test.

    Official wording
“the qualification was completed within 5 years of the date of commencement at UTS”

    From uts.edu.au, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • Test scores are accepted if obtained less than 2 years before applying (page also says scores must be under two years old at course commencement for some courses).

    Official wording
“English language proficiency test scores are recognised if they were obtained less than 2 years before you applied to UTS”

    From uts.edu.au, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • Some courses allow results from up to two sittings of the same test within 12 months to be combined, under stated conditions; scores from different tests cannot be combined.

    Official wording
“a maximum of 2 sittings of the same test, in a 12-month period is acceptable only if”

    From uts.edu.au, read on 13 Oct 2026.

Good to know before you apply

  • General UTS bachelor and coursework masters entry: PTE Academic 58 overall with a writing score of 50 (page columns: Overall, Writing).
  • Nursing, midwifery, psychology honours, pharmacy, clinical psychology and physiotherapy have two score tables depending on the test date (on or before 22 April 2026, or from 23 April 2026).
  • Teaching degrees need PTE Academic 73 overall with 79 in speaking and listening.
  • The page states different course-specific tables apply, and combined degrees take the higher of the two component requirements.

What to practise for UTS

Every skill carries the same highest minimum on this page: 79, set by the Combined Bachelor / Master of Teaching (Primary or Secondary) row. No single skill stands out, so start with your lowest skill score on your latest score report.

Which PTE test, and how long a score lasts

PTE AcademicAccepted
PTE Academic UKVINot stated on the pages we checked
PTE CoreNot stated on the pages we checked
Score validity noted2 years

PTE (academic) is listed in every score table and linked as a recognised test. The page does not say how PTE scores are sent, and does not mention PTE Academic Online or PTE Core. Research degrees and a few courses (Executive MBA and Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Strategy, Orthoptics, Animation and Visualisation, and research degrees) publish PTE as a range such as 58-64 or 65-72 with no stated rule for which end applies, so no row was recorded for them. Pharmacist Prescribing, Designated Registered Nurse Prescribing and Critical Care graduate certificates refer to special requirements not captured here.

Pearson's own rules on validity are in our PTE score validity guide. Compare tests in PTE Academic vs Core vs UKVI.
