Waivers and English pathways

Ways Teesside says you may not need to submit a PTE score, or may reach the requirement another way.

  • Applicants holding certain Indian school board results (CBSE and ICSE at 65% or more; a list of state boards such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh at 70% or more) can combine the qualification with a University interview to meet English conditions, instead of a test score. Offered during admissions to eligible students; whether it satisfies visa (CAS) rules is not stated.

    Official wording
“combine the qualification with a University interview to meet English language conditions”

    From tees.ac.uk, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • Applicants whose English is below the required level but not below IELTS 4.5 can take a Teesside pre-sessional English course. The page gives this threshold in IELTS only; no PTE equivalent is stated.

    Official wording
“but not lower than IELTS 4.5, you can take one of our pre-sessional English courses”

    From tees.ac.uk, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • For courses below degree level (pre-sessional English, foundation programmes, HNDs) a Secure English Language Test is required and the page then names UKVI approved IELTS; PTE is not named. Integrated degrees with a foundation year follow the degree-level list, which includes PTE Academic.

    Official wording
“For courses below degree level, such as pre-sessional English, foundation programmes and HNDs, students must sit a Secure English Language”

    From tees.ac.uk, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • The university's own TELT test is not offered in India, so Indian applicants asked to take a 4-band test must take another such test; the page gives IELTS as the example.

    Official wording
“this service isn't currently provided, so you will need to take another 4 band English test, such as an IELTs.”

    From tees.ac.uk, read on 13 Oct 2026.

Good to know before you apply

  • PTE Academic and PTE Academic UKVI are both on the accepted list for degree and postgraduate entry.
  • Only overall PTE Academic scores are published; no PTE per-skill minimum appears on the page.
  • Most undergraduate and postgraduate groups sit at 59 or 62 overall; Health courses need 66.

What to practise for Teesside

Teesside gives overall figures only on the rows above, so no single skill is singled out. Start with your lowest skill score on your latest report, because a strong skill cannot always cover a weak one.

Degree and postgraduate entry lists both Pearson's PTE Academic and PTE Academic UKVI. Below degree level the page names UKVI approved IELTS, not PTE. No PTE validity or score-sending detail on the page. The page links an approved-tests PDF titled for 2024/2025 (not read); the tables themselves are undated.

Pearson's own rules on validity are in our PTE score validity guide. Compare tests in PTE Academic vs Core vs UKVI.
