Hertfordshire PTE Academic requirements by level

Scores are on the PTE 10 to 90 scale. "Each skill at least" means Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing must each reach that figure, as well as the overall score. Where a row shows a figure for each skill, those are the minimums for that skill. Scroll sideways on a small screen.

Waivers and English pathways

Ways Hertfordshire says you may not need to submit a PTE score, or may reach the requirement another way.

  • Country-specific qualifications are accepted as proof of English, including Indian Standard XII English Language at 65% for undergraduate and 70% to 75% for postgraduate entry.

    Official wording
“country specific English language qualifications such as Indian Standard XII English Language (65% undergraduate/70% to 75% postgraduate).”

    From herts.ac.uk, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • Applicants who have not reached the required English level can apply for pre-sessional English short courses or a HIC pathway, but need a degree offer first. Entry to pre-sessional courses requires a UKVI SELT, Academic IELTS or Trinity test; the page does not list PTE for this route.

    Official wording
“we offer pre-sessional English short courses or a HIC pathway”

    From herts.ac.uk, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • English proficiency must be shown before an unconditional offer is made; if an offer carries an English condition it is expressed as an IELTS requirement, and some courses accept only IELTS.

    Official wording
“some courses will only accept IELTS. If this applies to your programme, this will be noted on your offer.”

    From herts.ac.uk, read on 13 Oct 2026.

Good to know before you apply

Which PTE test, and how long a score lasts

PTE AcademicAccepted
PTE Academic UKVINot stated on the pages we checked
PTE CoreNot accepted

The page lists 'Pearson Test of English (PTE)' without naming the Academic or UKVI variant in the main list; the UKVI B2 table names PTE Academic. The 'higher requirement' course groups are published only as IELTS figures, with no PTE figure, so no PTE rows are recorded for them: check the individual course page. The university says some courses accept only IELTS, and that an offer's English condition is expressed as an IELTS requirement. PTE Academic UKVI is not named. Not verified whether PTE Academic Online is accepted (the page lists other online tests, not PTE).

Pearson's own rules on validity are in our PTE score validity guide. Compare tests in PTE Academic vs Core vs UKVI.
