Queen's PTE Academic requirements by level

Scores are on the PTE 10 to 90 scale. "Each skill at least" means Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing must each reach that figure, as well as the overall score. Where a row shows a figure for each skill, those are the minimums for that skill. Scroll sideways on a small screen.

Waivers and English pathways

Ways Queen's says you may not need to submit a PTE score, or may reach the requirement another way.

  • No English test is needed if the applicant lived for the most recent three years before university in a country where English is the acknowledged primary language.

    Official wording
“lived in a country where English is the acknowledged primary language for the most recent three years prior to beginning their university studies”

    From queensu.ca, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • No English test is needed if the applicant attended an English-medium institution full-time for the most recent three years; documentation from the school (such as a school profile or principal's letter) must show instruction was entirely in English, and Queen's decides. The page names no India-specific or board-specific rule.

    Official wording
“attended an education institution full-time where the medium of instruction is English for the most recent three years prior to beginning their university studies”

    From queensu.ca, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • An IB diploma completion waives the test (SL English B alone is not sufficient).

    Official wording
“Completed an IB diploma (completion of SL English B is not sufficient)”

    From queensu.ca, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • Applicants below the required score may be automatically assessed for the QBridge language pathway if otherwise competitive; submitting a lower score does not harm the application and no separate application is needed.

    Official wording
“Submitting a language test score below the requirement will not harm your application.”

    From queensu.ca, read on 13 Oct 2026.

  • If a waiver request is refused and a test is still required, an acceptable result must be submitted by March 31st.

    Official wording
“you must submit an acceptable result by March 31st.”

    From queensu.ca, read on 13 Oct 2026.

Good to know before you apply

  • Scores must be sent through the testing body; the page says this is the only acceptable way to submit results.
  • Use the same name, date of birth and gender as on the Queen's application so results can be matched.

What to practise for Queen's

Queen's gives overall figures only on the rows above, so no single skill is singled out. Start with your lowest skill score on your latest report, because a strong skill cannot always cover a weak one.

Only the undergraduate page was read. The official page lists PTE Academic with an overall score only; it does not mention PTE Core, PTE Academic UKVI or PTE Academic Online. Graduate (postgraduate) requirements were not found on a fetchable official page, so no masters or research rows are recorded.

Pearson's own rules on validity are in our PTE score validity guide. Compare tests in PTE Academic vs Core vs UKVI.
